Auditions for The Merry Wives of Windsor

Shakespeare Live’s summer production in 2018 will be The Merry Wives of Windsor, to be performed at Cleeve House near Seend from Monday 2nd to Saturday 7th July.

Auditions will be held on Sunday 21st January 2018 at Cleeve House* from 10am to 4pm

The play offers strong parts for actors of all ages, male and female, including children. The production will also give plenty of scope for those who prefer not to take a large role, with a substantial supporting cast of Windsor residents!

Friends who are familiar with Shakespeare Live and newcomers to the group are equally welcome. Come for whichever part of the day suits you – on arrival we will ask you to complete a short form indicating if possible which part(s) you may be interested in playing. We will ask you to join with other prospective players in reading/performing short extracts from the script – but if you wish to prepare a representative speech from your chosen character we will be happy to hear that as well.

If you would like to be considered for a part but will have difficulty attending the audition please email us: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Return to The Dell

Bottom's Dream

With great delight we can report that this year we were successful in our application to take part in the RSC’s summer programme at The Dell! So, to great acclaim, we resumed our annual August outing in Stratford with Bottom’s Dream, conceived and directed by Pat Cannings and Graham Paton.

Although it draws its material from the same play as our main summer show this year, Bottom’s Dream is something altogether different which tells the story of Nick Bottom the weaver in a unique way. Read more below to discover what it's all about...

Our big day in Stratford is past but, as in previous years, we will do a tour of local venues at the beginning of October – dates for this are booked between the 5th and the 11th in Bradford on Avon, Bath, Chippenham, Corsham and Devizes. The show makes the very most of the opportunities for mayhem and comedy that the scenario offers! With a cast of 12 energetic enthusiasts, our Stratford audiences loved it and we know our local friends will too...

“I have had a dream past the wit of man to say what dream it was … It shall be called ‘Bottom’s Dream’ because it hath no bottom…”

Summer 2017

July 2017 will be an exciting time for Shakespeare Live and for our many loyal and regular audience members.

This is the month that will see us step out on stage for the first time in our new venue. We now know that our new home is to be Cleeve House at Seend, a venue ideally suited to this year's show, the perennial favourite 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Directed with characteristic flair by Rod Moor-Bardell it is sure to be a visual treat and a comic delight!

'The Dream' is one of William Shakespeare's best loved plays. Its mix of tangled love, enchanted forest, magical fairies and aspiring thespians has captivated audiences throughout the ages.

Shakespeare Live's first production at Cleeve House promises an evening of spectacular entertainment as director Rod Moor-Bardell weaves a tapestry of song, dance, music and above all excellent acting for your enjoyment of this timeless play.

The show will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the life of this long-standing, successful and highly regarded theatre company - whether you are an old friend or an interested newcomer, this one is absolutely not to be missed. Booking opens in April and you will find all you need on our 'Booking' and 'Performance Info' pages.

(If you were a visitor to our 2016 production of The Tempest you may have seen our 2017 show advertised as King Lear. Rest assured, our Lear will come, but in view of our change of venue we have decided to hold it over for another year...)
